Dear Families and Visitors,
Welcome to Oakwood Tokyo International School, a thriving educational community in the heart of Setagaya, just 10 minutes from Kaminoge Station. At Oakwood, we believe that a school is more than just a place of learning—it is a vibrant community where children, families, and educators come together to nurture each child's unique potential.
We take immense pride in serving both local and international families, offering a comprehensive early childhood education and childcare program for children aged 10 months to 6 years. In April 2025, we will launch our Bridging to Elementary School program, followed by a full 1st through 3rd grade curriculum in September 2025. This expansion reflects our unwavering commitment to your child’s academic and personal growth, ensuring a seamless transition to elementary education in an environment that fosters curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
As Principal, I bring decades of diverse educational experience from both the United States and Japan. Growing up in a close-knit town in Massachusetts, I was fortunate to be surrounded by a family whose encouragement and support shaped my own educational journey. This foundation—cultivated in one of the top-ranked public school systems in America—inspired me to pursue a career dedicated to empowering children through education.
My academic path began at an International Baccalaureate candidate school, where my passion for languages and multicultural understanding flourished. At the University of Massachusetts, I deepened this passion by studying both Chinese and Japanese. After graduation, I moved to Japan, starting as an assistant teacher before becoming the coordinator of an English language program in Aomori Prefecture. I later returned to the U.S. to obtain certifications in English, Structured English Immersion (SEI), and Chinese Language and Literature, expanding my teaching experience across diverse educational settings.
At Oakwood, we believe the foundation of a child's success is built on a strong sense of community—both local and international. Our dedicated team of passionate, highly skilled educators shares this vision, ensuring that every child feels academically supported and emotionally valued.
Whether you are new to Oakwood or an established local family, enrolling your child here means becoming part of a warm, extended family devoted to fostering children who can reach their full potential.
We invite you to join us in shaping your child’s early educational journey. We look forward to welcoming you into the Oakwood family and working together to support your child's growth, development, and love of learning.
Warm regards,
David B. Foley, Jr.
